The Master Classes of Opera and Lied Summer 2025
In cooperation with Savonlinna Summer University & University of the Arts Helsinki – Sibelius Academy
The application time starts March 1 and ends April 30.
BAROQUE OPERA MAGIC – 16.-23.7. Arias, recitatives, duets and ensembles from Handel operas.
Masterclass including musical coaching with baroque music exerpts from tenor Topi Lehtipuu and harpsichordist Petteri Pitko, character interpretation and staging by acclaimed director Victoria Newlyn (Guildhall School of Music & Drama, Royal Academy of Music, London; Sibelius Academy, Helsinki).
Two staged performances in Savonlinna Hall, July 22-23, with a baroque ensemble of 4 musicians.
Collaboration with Savonlinna Opera Festival.
The masterclass includes:
– Baroque performance practices -lectures by Petteri Pitko; one distance teaching session before the masterclass and another in Savonlinna during the masterclass
– A distance teaching session with stage director Victoria Newlyn before the masterclass
– Individual musical coachings by Topi Lehtipuu, Petteri Pitko and Kristian Attila, recitatives and arias
– Ensemble rehearsals
– Character interpretation and staging by Victoria Newlyn, individual and ensemble work
– Stage rehearsals in the Savonlinna Hall
– Rehearsals with our baroque ensemble, guided by Petteri Pitko andTopi Lehtipuu
– Dress rehearsal and two public performances in the Savonlinna Hall
– Marketing collaboration with the Savonlinna Opera Festival
– Feedback from the teachers
Application period: The application period will be 1.3.-30.4.2025.
Course fee: 700 €.
How to apply:
1) Fill in the Online application form.
2) The applicants are requested to send a video where you sing one Händel aria (+optional recit) and a song/aria of your own choice. Please submit the recording (or youtube link to it), your CV and possible recommendations by 30th April on the application form or by email: musicacademy.savonlinna@gmail.com. The accepted singers will receive suggestions for duets and other ensembles asap after the end of the application.
NB! Applications are binding. In case a participant cancels his or hers attendance later than 2 weeks before the beginning of the course without a valid reason, full course fee will be charged. With a valid reason cancellation fee will be 50 €.
CHANGYONG LIAO – Chinese Art Song, Lied & Opera, 19.-25.7.
Professor Changyong Liao (Shanghai Conservatory of Music)
Master Class mainly for the Duos (singer & pianist). The participants should have at least 5-7 songs/Lieder in their repertoire, more information later.
Application period: The application period will be 1.3.-30.4.2025.
Course fee: 540 € per Duo (4×45 min).
How to apply:
1) Fill in the Online application form. Please make sure that both the singer and pianists fill in their own form.
2) The applicants are requested for a recording or video or link to video. The recording should include about 15 minutes freely selected repertoire. Please submit the recording, your CV and possible recommendations on the application form or by email: musicacademy.savonlinna@gmail.com. Ask also more info about applying!
