SAVONLINNA MUSIC ACADEMY

Artistic Chairman Ralf Gothóni
Artistic Director Kristian Attila
Savonlinna Music Academy is internationally an unique institute of higher music education: it is a precursor on fields of opera, Lied, and chamber music. On summer 2019 we organised 14 high-class Master classes in cooperation with Savonlinna Summer University and University of the Arts Helsinki – Sibelius-Academy.
Our goal is to deepen the professional skills of young musicians and to promote the Finnish music life and its international relations. Savonlinna Music Academy’s extensive national and international networks enable organising Master classes for talented students in an unique environment. The Finnish tradition of music education, renowned professors, and the cultural atmosphere of Savonlinna give a possibility for students to develop themselves, communicate, and to create lifelong connections.

Mission of Savonlinna International Music Academy

Savonlinna Music Academy is internationally an unique institute of higher music education: it is a precursor on fields of opera, Lied, and chamber music.

Savonlinna Music Academy has a broad network of partners and collaborators from local to international operators.

The Master classes of Music Academy are arranged in collaboration with Savonlinna Summer University and University of the Arts Helsinki / Sibelius-Academy.

The council of Savonlinna Music Academy Support Association consists of notables from Finnish business and public sectors.

Savonlinna Music Academy increases the cultural activity of Savonlinna besides the Opera festival.

Savonlinna Music Academy’s history dates back to 1950’s. Nowadays it combines the world-famous Finnish education of classical music, international artists and young musicians and invites them to meet each other in the unique atmosphere of Savonlinna. The Music Academy may be compared to the Steans Institute operating alongside the Ravinia Festival or the Mozarteum at the Salzburg Festival.

At the Master classes of Music Academy the young musicians have a possibility for all-encompassing learning in which the open and verastile communication is a key to deeper insight. An other key factor are the chamber music lessons where the students and teachers play together.

Savonlinna Music Academy is maintained by Savonlinna Music Academy Support Association. It’s mission is to promote teaching creative musical expressions and support the Finnish music life. The Association is not seeking for financial profit.
